As I am sure everyone is aware, 2016 was an interesting year with one surprise after another. With costs constantly going up and attendance down, it is nearly impossible to make ends meet. It seems we nicely get ends to meet and someone comes along and moves one end.
It is clear we are unable to operate at a constant loss on most parties. To that end, a lively discussion was held on where we go from here.
The attendance at the AGM was really good and we feel there is still a lot of interest in keeping the club going and we got a lot of ideas of how we can go forward from here.
The Board stays as it is with the addition of Shelagh Boggs and we welcome her. I am sure she will be a great asset.
A big thank you to Lynn Hedekar for putting up a Face Book page for the club. It is looking good. On page 7 of this newsletter, Lynn has written an explanation of how to get on to that website.
As Tommy Johansen is stepping down, we want to thank him for the time spent on the Board. A big thanks to everyonethat shows up at our funcions to help; you are a great part of this club's success.
On behalf of the board,
Yours truly, Niels
For the 2016 calendar year, the club lost $1681.40.
So, that was not a great year financially, but we are still able to operate with the modest reserve that we have in our accounts.
Our loss was largely due to a couple of our dinner/dance parties that were not as well attended as in previous years so a number of suggestions were made with respect to those parties.
Please make your reservations early so that a decision on cancellation can be made. It was suggested that a slightly higher ticket price be instituted on both our dinner/dance parties as well as our smaller afternoon events.
Ath the AGM, a motion was made and passed to increase our annual membership dues to $20 per person per year. We have not seen an increase in these dues for a long, long time so we are sure that our members will be pleased to support this change and others in order to help our club deliver this qualtiy newsletter and the many quality cultural events that we have come to expect from our club.
Respectfully, Tom Hedekar - Treasurer
Our AGM and annual Frikadelle Contest was held March 8th and was well attended. There were lots of delicious frikadeller for all, and the judges pronounced the contest to be a very close one. The winner was Inga Andersen, second place went to Lena Tsuji and the third prize went to Ingeborg Kristiansen. Many thanks to the contestants as well as to the judges.
Our upcoming Birthday Party will be held at Costin Hall, 7232 Lantzville Road, Lantzville on Sunday April 26th. Please note that our usual set-up time of 11:00 am has been moved to 1:00pm, starting with leverpostej. Parking is just off Schoolhouse Road (beside the legion, the large gravel parking lot on the right).
Other upcoming events this spring include our ever popular Pandekage Afternoon (back at Bowen Park) at 2:00 pm on May 24th and also our St. Hans celebration at Transfer Beach in Ladysmith at 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 23rd. Bring your friends to these events. See you there!
Finally, we were saddened by Henny Andersen's announcement that she will be retiring from catering our large functions and that the Birthday Party on April 26 will be her last. Henny will be a hard act to follow, but we wish her all the best in her retirement!
Respectfully submitted by, John Jensen
